The aim of this poster competition is to raise awareness of the silent killer, carbon monoxide poisoning and how to prevent it and thereby save lives and preserve health. The poster competition is for two year groups: the last year of state primary school (year 6, i.e. aged 10-11); and the first year of sixth form (year 12, i.e. aged 16-17) or college.

Some people with Dial-Up Internet Access might have trouble downloading these files. If so, please ask your school to do it for you.
Illustrated materials about carbon monoxide written especially for the competition as well as the competition rules are available by following the link above. The prizes are iPods for the students and £500 worth of IT equipment for each winning school. There are five regions (see rules) so there will be ten winning students and ten winning schools altogether plus one national winning student in each age group. Winners will be presented with prizes at an event, probably at the Houses of Parliament, during the 2009 CO Awareness week.
It is recommended that all students and teachers print out the material available as well as the rules and read them thoroughly before entering. The Carbon Monoxide Gas Safety charity encourages students and teachers to take the materials about carbon monoxide home to their families.
News about the 2007/08 Competition
Winners have been notified. A prize-winning event will be held on 20th January 2009 at the House of Commons and will be supported by Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children's Schools and Families and the Corfu parents who tragically lost their children to carbon monoxide in 2006.
The Schools Poster Competition is dedicated to the memory of Edward Tomlinson, who died of carbon monoxide poisoning in the Lebanon. Our particular thanks to Heather Tomlinson, Ed’s mother, who kindly ran a pilot project of this competition for us.
